Researching keywords
Use the Research tool to find keywords worth going after — volume, difficulty, and intent.
The Research page helps you find keywords before you commit to tracking them. Type any seed term and Beacon returns related keywords with the numbers that matter.
The four numbers to look at
- Volume — how many times per month people search for this term.
- Difficulty — how hard it is to break onto page one, based on who currently ranks.
- Intent — whether searchers want information, are comparing options, or are ready to buy. Commercial and transactional intent convert best.
- Trend — whether interest is growing, flat, or declining over the year.
For small businesses, medium-volume keywords with low difficulty and buying intent are usually worth more than high-volume trophy terms you can't rank for.
